About

Co-operative Group Limited, trading as Co-op, is a British consumer co-operative whose retail businesses span grocery retail and wholesale, legal services, funerals and insurance, alongside social enterprise work.^[1] It is headquartered at One Angel Square in Manchester, on an estate it has occupied since 1863, when 300 co-operative societies across Yorkshire and Lancashire launched its wholesaling predecessor, the North of England Co-operative Wholesale Industrial and Provident Society Limited, later the Co-operative Wholesale Society.^[1] The Group also manages the Co-operative Federal Trading Services, through which most products sold in Co-op Food shops are sourced collectively.^[2] It employs about 56,000 people on a turnover above £11 billion and uses the Co-op brand for its food business.^[2]
