About Borders
Borders was an American book and stationery retailer founded in 1971 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, by the brothers Tom and Louis Borders.[1] Kmart bought it in October 1992 and spun it off in 1995 as Borders Group, Inc., headquartered in Ann Arbor with Waldenbooks as a subsidiary.[1] The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on 16 February 2011 and liquidated its remaining stores, the last closing in September 2011; Barnes & Noble acquired the Borders trademark and other intellectual property that month.[1] Its stores formerly sold CDs and DVDs alongside books.[1]
