Stationery/Office Machinery/Occasion Supplies is one of the top-level segments of the GS1 Global Product Classification, the scheme that gives every brick code used elsewhere on this site its place in a hierarchy of segment, family, class and brick. Its compound name joins two domains that have little to do with each other beyond being sold in the same shops: the things a desk needs, from pens and pencils to staplers, filing, photocopiers and postal equipment, and the things an occasion needs, from greeting cards and gift wrap to balloons, party hats and confetti.^[1] GS1 publishes its "includes" and "excludes" definitions only at brick level, so a segment such as this one carries no definition text of its own; that is why this page describes what the segment contains rather than quoting a definition, as the brick pages beneath it do.^[1]

In publication 286 of May 2026 the segment holds three families, sixteen classes and 117 bricks. Stationery/Office Machinery is much the largest, with eleven classes and 93 bricks, the biggest being Postal/Packaging Equipment/Aids/Accessories with fifteen, Writing/Design Implements/Aids with thirteen, and Office Machinery and Stationery Adhesives/Binders/Fasteners with twelve each. Greeting Cards/Gift Wrap/Occasion Supplies holds four classes and 23 bricks, of which Occasion Supplies is the largest at eleven. A third family exists only to hold packs that mix the other two.^[1] The segment reaches further than its name suggests: alongside pens, pencils and highlighters it classifies typewriters and photocopiers, postal weighing scales and franking machines, postage stamps, and party goods as far afield as fireworks, pinatas and party poppers.^[1]

The treatment of mixed packs is the most instructive thing about this segment, because the scheme provides a variety-pack brick at every level of nesting. A pack of assorted writing implements goes to brick 10001230 inside the Writing/Design Implements/Aids class; one that mixes writing implements with filing or office machinery goes up to 10001325 for the stationery family; one that mixes greeting cards with gift wrap goes to 10001205 on the occasion side; and one that spans both families, a card packed with a pen, goes to 10003771 at segment level. A pack whose contents leave the segment altogether leaves this hierarchy too, and belongs to brick 10000624 in the Cross Segment segment.^[1] In effect a mixed pack is classified at the narrowest node that still contains everything in it.

The numbering follows the usual pattern, which is worth stating because it invites a wrong guess. Segment, family and class codes are prefixed by the segment, running 62000000, then 62060000, then 62060100, but brick codes are not: all 117 bricks here fall between 10001201 and 10008022, in one flat global sequence shared with every other segment. A brick code on its own therefore says nothing about which segment classifies it, and only the parent chain does, which each category file on this site records in its parent field.^[1]
