Surge protectors regulate the voltage supplied to an electric device by either blocking, or shorting to ground, voltage above a safe threshold. Includes products such as external surge suppressors, which are installed on the electrical panel to protect home appliances such as refrigerators and washing machines, or point-of-use surge suppressors, which are connected to individual pieces of home electronic equipment such as computers and televisions.
