Pet Care/Food

GPC segment

About

Pet Care/Food is one of the top-level segments of the GS1 Global Product Classification, the scheme this site uses to file a product by what it is. It sits at the root of the hierarchy, with no parent above it, and gathers everything sold for the keeping of animals: their food and drink, and the products used to groom, house and care for them.[1]

The segment divides into three families. Pet Care holds pet welfare and hygiene, pet nutritional supplements, pet accessories and pet care variety packs. Pet Food/Drinks holds pet drinks, pet food, and pet food and drinks variety packs. Pet Care/Food Variety Packs covers mixed assortments that span both. Below those families sit the classes and then the bricks, which are the level at which an individual product is actually filed; examples beneath this segment include Pet Food (Frozen) and Pet Care/Food Variety Packs.[1]

Unlike a brick, a segment carries no definition or exclusion text in the published classification, so none is reproduced here; the descriptions above are drawn from the titles of the families, classes and bricks that sit beneath it.[1]
