Soft drink brand founded in Geneva in 1783 by the German watchmaker Johann Jacob Schweppe to sell carbonated water, which moved to London in 1792.[1] The founding year is printed under the fountain emblem on current cans.[2] Ownership of the brand is split by territory: The Coca-Cola Company owns it in several territories including 21 European countries, Schweppes International Limited, a subsidiary of Suntory, in a further 22 European countries, and the Asahi Group owns the trademark in Australia.[1] On Belgian and French cans of Schweppes Agrum' the manufacture is stated to be authorised by Schweppes International Limited.[2]
