About Poppets
Poppets are bite-sized chocolate-coated dragées sold in Britain in small cardboard cartons and in pouches. They were introduced in 1937 by Payne's fine confectionery of Croydon, at first with a raisin centre only, and were long sold as Paynes Poppets; mint, toffee, orange and salted caramel fudge followed.[1] The carton with its tear-out corner hatch, kept when other brands moved to plastic wrappers in the 1960s and 1970s, made them a cinema staple.[1] The brand now belongs to Valeo Confectionery, which lists it among the Valeo Foods UK brands alongside Fox's, Barratt and Taveners.[2]
