About
Ministry of Sound is the record label and compilation imprint of the London club of the same name, which opened in Elephant and Castle in September 1991 and put its sound system before everything else.[1] The label side began with a compilations business in 1993 whose albums have since sold more than 55 million copies, alongside an artist and repertoire division that ran the Open, Data, Substance, Smoove and Rulin imprints before they were consolidated as Ministry of Sound Recordings in 2009.[1] Discogs records the imprint under the label codes LC 2756 and LC 11683 and gives its address as 103 Gaunt Street, London SE1 6DP.[2] In August 2016 the recorded-music and compilations business was acquired by Sony Music.[1]
