About La Roche-Posay
La Roche-Posay is a dermatological skincare brand owned by L'Oréal, which places it in its Dermatological Beauty Division and calls it the world's leading dermatological brand, recommended by more than 100,000 dermatologists.[1] Its packs carry the wordmark "La Roche-Posay Laboratoire Dermatologique".[2] Many of its products are formulated with thermal spring water sourced in the town of La Roche-Posay in France.[3] The L'Oréal Group bought the brand in 1989.[4]
The spring water of La Roche-Posay has been used to treat skin conditions since the time of Napoleon, and the brand dates back to 1928, when dermal products formulated with it were first made.[4] In 1975 René Levayer created La Roche-Posay Laboratoire Pharmaceutique, where the first La Roche-Posay skincare range was developed.[4] The La Roche-Posay Foundation, set up to encourage dermatological research on atopy and skin intolerance, was created shortly before the L'Oréal purchase.[4]
