About Crest
Crest is an American brand of toothpaste and other oral-hygiene products made by Procter & Gamble and sold worldwide; in much of central and eastern Europe P&G sells it as Blend-a-med, and in France, the United Kingdom, Australia and other countries similar formulations appear under Oral-B.[1] It was introduced in the United States in 1954 as "Fluoristan", after its stannous fluoride, and renamed "Crest with Fluoristan" in 1955.[1]
The formula was developed by Joseph C. Muhler, Harry Day and William H. Nebergall at Indiana University; the active ingredient changed to sodium fluoride in 1981, while Crest Pro-Health returned to stannous fluoride.[1] Crest products are made in North America, with the main plant in Greensboro, North Carolina, and some products made in Guanajuato, Mexico.[1] The line includes Crest Baking Soda & Peroxide Whitening with Tartar Protection, a sodium fluoride toothpaste distributed by Procter & Gamble.[2]
