American Recordings

About

American Recordings is an American record label headed by producer Rick Rubin. Rubin founded it as Def American Recordings after leaving Def Jam Recordings in 1988 and renamed it American Recordings in 1993; its roster has included Slayer, the Black Crowes, Danzig, Johnny Cash, Tom Petty and System of a Down. Its distribution has passed over the years between Geffen, Warner Bros. Records, Columbia Records and Universal.^[1] Its imprint appears, with Columbia, on the 2005 US CD of System of a Down's Mezmerize (CK 90648).^[2]
