About
A.1. is a brand of brown sauce that began as a sauce Henderson William Brand created in London in 1824; it was produced commercially under the Brand & Co. label from 1831 and renamed A.1. in 1873.[1] In the United Kingdom the brand belongs to Premier Foods, while in North America it is produced by Kraft Heinz, whose predecessor Kraft Foods took over the licence when it acquired Nabisco in 1999.[1] The sauce was marketed in the United States as "A.1. Steak Sauce" from the early 1960s until Kraft dropped the word "steak" in 2014.[1]
