How to use the scanner

To use the scanner simply:

1 Adjust your webcam focus to be sharp on objects around 10cm/5inch from the webcam
2 Hold the barcode in front of the webcam such that you can see the entire barcode in focus in the preview area

Please notice that the current scanner only works with EAN13 and UPCA barcodes. Therefore if the scanner is unable to scan your barcode ensure that the barcode has 12-13 numbers below it

As Barcodepedia tries to provide as much information about any product we can we really need your help. User submitions are really great -- but sadly a rather slow -- way of accumulating data.

Therefore if you have a barcode database or know anyone who has one we would be allowed to import we are more then interested to hear from you.

SQL rewrite and upcdatabase.com

Thanks to a few of friends who are both a lot better at SQL then I am, barcodepedia is actually fast now. Instead of taking 10sec+ to generate the front-page we are down to around 0.2sec.

I also managed to get in contact with Rob from upcdatabase.com -- as so many of you has suggested. Rob is a super nice guy and has allowed us to use his data on barcodepedia.com, under our current licence. He as even gone so fare as to change his own licence to match ours.

Those of you who have written me emails about upcdatabase.com might notice here that we could just have taken the data as the GPL licence the data was under before was also quite open. upcdatabase and barcodepedia is however almost the same service so I wanted an OK from Rob before I just imported his data. In short I would rather see upcdatabase as a sister site then a competitor.

Finally the forum is up and running. The forum is for everyone who wants to be a part of barcodepedia. Currently we are seeking moderators and translators!
